Day 1-3: Blue Zebra (Luxury Safari Tents) – Nankoma Island, Lake Malawi

Welcome to Lilongwe, and Malawi – the warm heart of Africa! On arrival, a representative from Malawian will meet and greet you at the airport. You will be given the maps and information you need for your trip and directed to your first night’s accommodation: Blue Zebra.

The lodge offers 8 exclusive tented en-suite chalets each overlooking the lake. The chalets are set in an unspoiled environment and guests are surrounded by nature and luxury. Guest is free to chill at the infinity pool, kayak around the island, or enjoy a game of volleyball as part of the board packages.

About 131km/1 hour 45 minutes from Lilongwe airport to Senga Bay.
Boat transfer to Nankoma Island: 30 minutes.

Day 3-6: Thawale, Majete

Today, you leave Blue Zebra Island and head to Majete to a safari for a few days. You will be accommodated at Thawale. Thawale Lodge is a peaceful haven from which to experience Majete Wildlife Reserve, the only Game reserve in Malawi where the “the big five” can be viewed. Completely unfenced, the Lodge is regularly visited by wildlife.

About 345km/ 6 hours minutes from Salima + 30 minutes in the boat back to the mainland from the Blue Zebra.

Day 6-8: Zomba Forest Lodge, Zomba Plateau

Enjoy your last morning at Thawale. You will hit the road today and drive to Zomba. Your accommodation will be at the Zomba Forest Lodge in a stunning location on the Zomba Plateau.

This is an inviting, charming lodge with 4 rooms (2 twins and 2 doubles, all en-suite) boasting a colorful and lush garden to explore; a real treat to walk around and bird watching.

About 155 km/ 2.5 hours from Majete.

Day 8 – 11: Mvuu Camp, Liwonde National Park

Enjoy your last morning in Zomba. Get ready to Leave the lodge just after your breakfast and start driving to your next destination – the Mvuu Camp in the Liwonde National Park. Mvuu Camp overlooks a broad stretch of the Shire River (pronounced Shiree), with a profusion of hippos, crocodiles, and the amazing birdlife of the Liwonde National Park. An impressive thatched dining and lounge area is situated nearby, offering a magnificent vista of the Shire River.

About 98.5 km/ 2 hours 20 minutes from Zomba.

Day 11 - 13: Mumbo Island, Cape Maclear

Today after breakfast you will have a boat transfer to Mumbo island where you will spend the last two nights on your tour. Mumbo Island is a pristine and deserted tropical island floating on the expansive waters of the Lake Malawi National Park. With a maze of massive underwater boulders, innumerable species of colorful cichlid fish, and calm, clear water, the National Park offers what many consider to be the best freshwater snorkeling and SCUBA diving in the world. All tents are fully furnished with en-suite bathrooms.

Distance to Drive:

About 148 km/ 2 hours and 50 minutes from Liwonde. Boat transfer: 45 minutes from Cape Maclear.

Day 13: Departure, Lilongwe

All good things must come to an end, and today is the day you will be driving back to Lilongwe. You have a 4-hour drive ahead of you, before arriving at the airport where the car rental company will meet you to fetch your car.
